About H-10

A good few years ago now, a clever chemist worked for Tate & Lyle, who were at that time the biggest producers and refiners of sugar in the world. He noticed in the sugar making process that there was a fair amount of the original sugar itself exported to Japan. Why??

Eager to find out, his investigations lead him to discover that the Japanese were the first to produce and develop substances called sucrose esters - a natural bi-product from pure sugar but a discovery that has changed our world! Today, sucrose esters are used widely in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, detergents and food because they are:

• readily biodegradable;
• non-toxic; and
• mild to the skin.

In fact they are present in almost all manufactured food products, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.

Our chemist studied sucrose esters in depth and discovered for himself that they could have another strange effect - when they were sprayed as a protective layer on some fruits they actually slowed their ripening!! This allowed some types of fruit to travel further without spoiling and without the need for refrigeration. They could be kept in perfect condition for long periods. But our clever chemist wasn't stopping there... he thought that if sucrose esters were good for the skins of fruit, how good might they be on the skins of us humans?! Good question!

There began a real challenge that saw sucrose esters developed as the basis of a range of effective cosmetics far in advance of their time... and even as a very successful treatment for teenage acne. All H-10 products contain sucrose esters. Sucrose esters not only have great cosmetic properties, they also have strong anti-bacterial and anti-fungal action too, and there's plenty of published research for this.*Our products follow that original research and development path. H10 Australia was started in 2005 by Geoff Roberts, a good friend of our clever chemist, after a business career in pharmaceuticals. He wanted to bring the very best in grooming products and since then he's gone on to develop horse training products from the 'horse masters of the past' and these are available on this site.
